Abstract

This manual, which is divided into 4 parts, contains information on preventive travel medicine. Infectious (anthrax, arenaviral haemorrhagic fevers, botulism, brucellosis, cholera, dengue, dermatitis, diphtheria, filariasis, filovirus infection, hantavirus, hepatitis A, B, C, delta, E, and G, human immunodeficiency virus, Japanese encephalitis, legionellosis, leishmaniasis, leprosy, leptospirosis, Lyme borreliosis, malaria, measles, meningococcal meningitis monkeypox, plague, poliomyelitis, rabies, respiratory tract infections, Rift Valley fever, schistosomiasis, sexually transmitted diseases, smallpox, tetanus, tickborne encephalitis, traveller's diarrhoea, trypanosomiasis, tuberculosis, typhoid fever and yellow fever) and non-infectious (accidents, altitude problems, animal bites and stings, diving problems, jet lag, motion sickness, poisoning, psychiatric problems and exposure to ultraviolet rays) health risks common to travellers are described. The last part provides information on diagnosis and management of illness, including persistent diarrhoea, fever, dermatological disorders and eosinophilia, after return
