Abstract

Two pregel defatted corn grit baits were tested for efficacy against BA in ca. 2 acre plots of ratoon pineapple on Maui Island, Hawaii. The AI in the Logic bait was 0.5% fenoxycarb and in the GX-071 bait 0.6% sulfuramid. The treatments were applied on 16 Feb at 2 lb. bait/acre with a Buffalo turbine blower. Field perimeters were treated with a 50 ft Amdro buffer to retard reinvasion by surrounding ant colonies. Ant densities were monitored using 6 tongue depressors/replication coated with a 50:50 mixture of peanut butter and soybean oil. The tongue depressors were placed near the center of each plot at ca. a 20 ft distance from each other. Each treatment was replicated 3 times. BA counts were indexed, and 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 represented 0, 1-5, 6-10, 11-20, and >20 ants, respectively. Data were analyzed using ANOVA.
