Abstract

A simple, rapid, and accurate method is described for the determination of flow cytometer stream sample core diameters. A precisely formulated solution of potassium dichromate is introduced as a sample, the stream is collected, and its absorbance is measured using a spectrophotometer. This permits the calculation of the factor by which the original solution was diluted and, given the stream diameter, the sample core diameter. Copyright © 1989 Wiley‐Liss, Inc.
