Abstract

Endococcus variabilis is described as a new species from the thallus of Staurothele areolata in Turkey and Austria. It differs from most other species of the genus in the 4-6(-8) spored asci and verrucose ascospores, from E. zahlbrucknerellae in ascomatal and ascospore size, and from all known species by the host selection.
