Abstract

This paper sets out to analyze the students’profile from a specific vocational training sector, namely the “lycées des metiers”, and their perceptions in terms of professional inclusion and perspectives. The authors designed a self-reported questionnaire survey with (N = 244) students from different schools located in the southern regions of France. The results are consistent with recent studies on the changes seen in the vocational training sector: the profile of the surveyed population is quite different from the representation of underachieving students, and whose future is already determined according the logics of “social reproduction”. These findings also highlight the need for a differentiated approach to supporting guidance projects and job searches provided to this population, which is often still looked upon as students at risk of dropping out of school.
