Abstract

The size and number of adipose cells in obese children and adults were compared with control data. An increase in adipose cell size was found in all the obese subjects. The total number of adipose cells was increased in those children who had become obese already by the age of 1 year and in those adults who dated their obesity to childhood. © 1972, British Medical Journal Publishing Group.
