Abstract
Long term cryopreservation of rainbow trout sperm was attempted. Fertility test with the sperm preserved for 343 days gave nearly 40% eyed eggs. Changes in major cation content of spermatozoa related to freeze-thawing was investigated as a possible cause of reduction of fertilizing capacity. It was found that freeze-thawing causes an increase of Na+ and Ca++ and a decrease of K+ and Mg++ in spermatozoa. © 1980, The Japanese Society of Fisheries Science. All rights reserved.
