Abstract

Ionic liquids are widely recognized as one of the key components of "green" chemistry and they are also confirmed as having great potential in most essential areas of contemporary analytical chemistry. This review will focus on some of the properties of ionic liquids and their potential applications in reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) of some bioactive molecules. Reported key examples of successful applications of ionic liquids are critically reviewed, bearing in mind their physicochemical meaning. Information on retention mechanisms is also briefly analyzed. Ionic liquids demonstrate advantages and potential in chromatographic field.
