Abstract

Economic development or economic growth is the main theme defining sustainability and is also most problematic issue of sustainability. This chapter focuses on the relationship between economic development and sustainability, elements and indicators of economic sustainable development, ways to achieve sustainable development including carbon mitigation and using a bio-based economy, economic tools for evaluating sustainable development, different policies adopted in different countries to achieve economic sustainable development and what needs to be done in order to realize sustainable development in developing countries.
