Taimanov's evolution of conformally parametrized surfaces in Euclideanspace by the modified Novikov-Veselov equation is interpreted here (inthe revolution case) using hyperbolic geometry and Bäcklund transformationsfor curves. © 1999 American Mathematical Society.
