Abstract
Rapid growth and improvement in software development have prompted the use of cutting-edge designs, methodologies, techniques, and tools to provide software solutions of the highest calibre. However, guaranteeing dependable, practical, affordable, and high-quality software solutions requires more than just programming expertise. To improve software solutions, developers need to take into account many facets of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). This entails having the ability to think critically and analytically, conceiving of practical business scenarios, and prioritising quality control via extensive testing. Moreover, thorough project requirements and scope, outsourcing choices, prudent project planning, and agile approaches for managing requirement modifications may all lead to software solutions that are affordable. Using contemporary API-based architectures that enable the automation of governmental processes is one method to do this. A thorough overview of contemporary API-based designs for the automation of governmental processes is given in this chapter. All pertinent subjects are covered in the paper, including the fundamentals of API architecture, the benefits of using APIs in the government, and how to incorporate APIs into already-existing government systems. In pharmacology, since there are many diverse databases covering many fields (such as biology and chemistry), combining information is a major difficulty. The Open PHACTS group has created the Open PHACTS Discovery Platform, which uses Linked Data to provide integrated access to pharmacology databases, in order to solve this issue. There are several apps that interface with the platform, which has been visited more than 13.5 million times from its inception in April 2013 and March 2014. In this paper, we address how the traditional Linked Data Application Framework might be extended by Application Programming Interfaces to enable data integration. We also demonstrate how this enhanced architecture is implemented in the Open PHACTS Discovering Platform.
