Abstract
The academic production indexed in WoS on television programming is analyzed. A diachronic analysis is carried out that studies the evolution of the terms used in each stage and their clustering in order to offer a first step of the academic researchers' concerns about television programming and its effects. The networks identified among the academic works are taken into account. The proposed objectives are: to determine the areas of knowledge where the works on Television Programming are published; to identify the most relevant documents; to identify the predominant topics. We use an original methodology based on a Web of Science (WoS) data set and, through a snowball compilation technique, we record the most significant works including those external to WoS. There are two types of content analysis with a strong automated component: Bibliometric Analysis and Social Network Analysis are applied to scientific documents from the WoS Core Collection records. The results show how Communication and Film, Radio and Television make up more than 50 percent of total scientific production. In addition, it has been identified that the most relevant article belongs to the area of Communication, the second and third documents with the most citations are publications in the field of Medicine. Regarding the topic, there are two areas: The first focuses on television programming itself: History and evolution, competition, content and advertising; the second focuses on the analysis of the influence of programming on other dimensions: Obesity, violence, racism and stereotypes.
