Abstract
This work proposes an adaptive unequal error protection (UEP) andpacket size assignment scheme for scalable video transmission overa burst-error channel. An analytic model is developed to evaluatethe impact of channel bit error rate on the quality of streamingscalable video. A video transmission scheme, which combines theadaptive assignment of packet size with unequal error protectionto increase the end-to-end video quality, is proposed. Severaldistinct scalable video transmission schemes over burst-errorchannel have been compared, and the simulation results reveal thatthe proposed transmission schemes can react to varying channelconditions with less and smoother quality degradation.
