“Un producto que acá no hay”: traducciones entre ingenieros y mecánicos en el diseño de una prensa para una cooperativa de productores de mandioca

Abstract

Este artículo describe etnográficamente un diseño de ingeniería en colaboración, procurando problematizar las traducciones que se produjeron en la definición del objeto técnico en desarrollo: una prensa hidráulica para la manufactura de harina de mandioca. El trabajo conjunto de ingenieros y mecánicos, basado en el reconocimiento de códigos comunes que estructuran ese mundo particular, es analizado a partir de las diferencias y asimetrías en su construcción cotidiana atendiendo a tres momentos relevantes del diseño: 1) ABSTRACT This article describes in ethnographic terms a collaborative engineering design, attempting to problematize the translations that were produced in the definition of the technical object under development: a hydraulic press for the manufacture of cassava flour. The joint work of engineers and mechanics, based on the recognition of common codes that structure that particular world, is analyzed from the differences and asymmetries in their daily construction, attending to three relevant moments of design: 1) the review of tests that allow the progressive knowledge of the raw material, 2) the design adjustments based on the calculations and their relationship with the context, 3) the interpretation of the plans in the assembly progress and their incorporation in the definitive designs.
