Abstract

The literature on the concept of Organizational Competencies (OC) reveals a lack of empirical works devoted to the characterization and the internal dynamics of OC. In order to contribute to this debate, the goal of this work is to identify and characterize the most relevant organizational skills for the strategic management of a company in the financial sector. The methodology adopted here was a case study, and the data collection techniques used were a focal group and individual interviews. The information analysis followed the guidelines of Bardin (2009). During the analysis of the characteristics of the two OCs identified in the survey, we found that certain configurations of the organizational learning approach assumed an important role in the formation and development of these skills. The appropriation of the learning configuration in the research, besides significantly increasing the understanding of the dynamics of the skills, also opened space for us to consider the concept of Routines and the projection of a Learning Routine for the OC analyzed. The main contributions of this study are the confirmation of the method and instruments used to identify and characterize the OC, and the coordination of the learning configuration with the dynamics of the OC, which showed promising possibilities for future studies on the topic.
