Abstract

Globally, innovation has been considered a tool to improve the productivity of regions and reduce existing technology gaps. The objective of this study is to analyze the results of innovation achieved in 51 technological projects, carried out in different geographical areas of Colombia. The study uses the statistical procedure known as Main Components, to build an indicator composed of innovation and technology, from 48 simple variables that come from surveys and in-depth interviews conducted by the National Planning Directorate of the Colombian government in 2018 The data is contrasted with the theory and the results are analyzed according to the regional area to which they belong. The study concludes that concrete technological innovation activities should be financed and not mixed with the activities of the generation of scientific knowledge, so that the use of public resources is more effective and thus contribute to improving their innovation results, reducing technological gaps existing between lagging areas.
