Abstract
Distributed generation or distributed resources is the use of small-scale power generation technologies located close to the load. This paper analyzes long and short-term dynamics in a system with the presence of distributed generation. The studied system is a real distribution network located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. To study long-term dynamics, a fast simulation technique is used. On the other hand, to study short-term dynamics, full time-domain simulation is employed. All analyses were performed using a computational program that integrates these analyses tools in a unique platform. The main characteristics of the software are presented. The simulation results show that distributed resources can have a significant impact in the system for different types of distributed generators. © 2006 IEEE.
