Abstract

Objective. The research aimed to understand Knowledge Management practices, based on the approach of Nonaka and Takeuchi (1997), to improve the concept with the National Assessment System of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes) of the Postgraduate Program in Mathematics from the Federal University of Paraíba. Method. The investigation, qualitative in nature, was characterized as a case study, descriptive, exploratory, using bibliographic and documentary procedures. It was based on theoretical references based on authors who discuss Knowledge Management - highlighting the concepts of Nonaka and Takeuchi (1997) - descriptive survey of information about the Program studied, Postgraduate Public Policies, Knowledge Management and identification of practices related to the Assessment System. Results. The investigation provided, among other points, an understanding of the reality of the Postgraduate Program in Mathematics at the Federal University of Paraíba, with regard to teaching profile data, and the mapping and analysis of Knowledge Management practices existing in the Program, regarding knowledge acquisition and creation practices; systematization, organization and storage; knowledge sharing/distribution and application practices. Conclusions. It that existing Knowledge Management practices need to be boosted, valued, studied and expanded, so that the Program itself can benefit both in terms of improving its evaluation by Capes and, among other aspects, in terms of organization, sharing, use of information, boosting research and the teaching-learning process.
