Abstract

This study aims to comprehensively evaluate existing immersive technologies studies on healthcare education. A total of 68 publications were reviewed and rated based on four aspects: the principal users of virtual reality (VR), augmentative reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and extended reality (XR) mechanization in the healthcare sector; significant research achievements; why immersive tools increase healthcare-based training acquisition; and possible impacts. The first observation was that students of healthcare programs are most likely to use immersive technologies in healthcare. In addition, our study found that immersive technologies would improve training-based learning outcomes, motivate students, and create a positive attitude toward using them. The use of immersive tools also enhances training-based education, providing immersive learning experiences, increasing motivation, creating interaction, and reducing anxiety in the learning process. Moreover, previous research has identified several implications, including providing training to medical professionals, improving sample sizes, and studying learner factors such as engagement and satisfaction.
