Abstract
Based on the literary motif of the jungle, Ubertowska examines the potential of combining two research perspectives - ecocriticism and postcolonial theory. Drawing on the work of Robert Harrison, Edward Said and Lawrence Buell, she treats'the jungle' as a polyvalent discourse that changes in time, and that is rooted in many'ecological and cultural networks'.The methodology elaborated in the first part is applied in the second part, where Ubertowska explores Stanistaw Vincenz's Hutsul-cycle On the High Uplands.
