Abstract

Micromagnetic simulation has been performed for two-dimensional arrays of single-domain magnetic particles using the Landau-Lifshitz equation of motion and an energy minimization method. Effects of array anisotropy and spin positional disorder on the hysteresis loop and coercivity of the particle systems are investigated. Simulation results show that the hysteresis loop can be largely modified by breaking geometric symmetry of square arrays, and coercivity in general is found to increase with array disorder. Magnetic hysteresis is strongly affected by disorder when the array contains only a few particles. © 2011 American Institute of Physics.
