Abstract

I theorize the individual and joint effects of the negative attainment discrepancy in two causally related goals (i.e., parent profitability and operational efficiency goals) on foreign divestment. Particularly, I challenge the traditional sequential attention rule and propose a new mechanism explaining how decision makers allocate their attention between causally-related goals.
