Abstract

In the 1980s, the Gatshy Charitable Foundation together with the Local Education Authority in Hertfordshire developed the Engineering Education Scheme which is now operational in England. The aim of the Scheme is to provide an opportunity for lower sixth form students who are studying mathematics and physics at 'A' level to experience the intellectual and creative challenges of engineering. The Scheme is particularly aimed at high-quality, well-focused students who would probably be attracted into a career in one of the engineering or scientific disciplines. The Scheme offers considerable benefits to all participants including teachers, schools and colleges, engineers and companies.
