Abstract

The use of horizontal wells in waterfloods should provide higher sweep efficiency for less cost compared with the use of classical patterns with vertical wells. However, the use of horizontal wells is very sensitive to the well pattern. A numerical analysis showed how the overall efficiency of a waterflood is influenced by different well patterns when horizontal injector and producer wells are used.
