Abstract

Individual traits of cv. Guardian were manipulated (by chemical, genetic or physical means) to determine the effects of such characters on grain yield and crop physiology. Only height was closely associated with high grain yield. Of 5 varieties studied, the Rht1 (Guardian) and rht (Apollo and Mercia) varieties exhibited higher total biomass and lower harvest index values than varieties carrying Rht2, the most active dwarfing gene.
