Abstract

The amino acid sequences of the two main subunits (CRTA and CRTC) of α -crustacyanin, the lobster carapace carotenoprotein, have been determined. Computer graphics have been used to model the structures of the subunits, that of the dimer,β -crustacyanin, and the putative binding-sites for astaxanthin. Progress in determining the crystal structures and advances in sequencing carotenoproteins from other invertebrate phyla is reported. © 1994 IUPAC
