PEMBANGUNAN KOMIK PENDIDIKAN SEBAGAI SOLUSI KEPADA STIGMA SOSIAL PEMBACA MALAYSIA: ISU, ELEMEN DAN IMPLIKASI

Abstract

AbstrakSebagai warisan seni tanah air yang tidak ternilai, sebilangan besar pelan tindakan bagi mengangkatmartabat komik di Malaysia telah direalisasikan oleh pelbagai pihak. Namun begitu, masih wujud stigmanegatif terhadap komik di kalangan masyarakat. Bagi menyokong usaha pembangunan komik pendidikansebagai salah satu solusi memantapkan sokongan umum terhadap media visual ini, artikel ini mengkajielemen utama dalam komik pendidikan yang disenaraikan mengikut kategori berbeza. Ini bertujuan untukmengenalpasti bagaimana unsur pendidikan diintegrasikan dalam komik. Hasil kajian didapati selariinstructional yang dinyatakan oleh pelopor seni komik antarabangsa,Will Eisner iaitu komik pendidikan dengan kandungan bersifat fakta dan kandungan untuk pembentukansikap. Analisa juga merumuskan bahawa komik pendidikan berpotensi menjadi medium pilihan primerdi kalangan kanak-kanak dan remaja kerana kandungannya memenuhi perkembangan intelektual dankehendak emosi golongan tersebut. Artikel ini turut mengupas kepentingan menjalankan penyelidikanlanjutan bagi memantau sejauh mana komik pendidikan diterima pembaca dengan kerjasama wargaindustri komik negara. AbstractAs the invaluable artistic heritage of the motherland, a large number of action plans to raise the prestigeof comics in Malaysia has been realized by various parties. However, there is still a negative stigmaagainst comics in the societies. To support the development of educational comic as one of the solutionsto strengthen public support for visual media, this article examines the key elements in comic educationlisted according to different categories. It aims to identify how the educational elements are integrated incomic. The findings appear consistent with two general classifications of instructional comic expressedby the international pioneers of comic arts, Will Eisner as the educational comic with factual contents andcontents for the formation of attitudes. The analysis also concludes that the educational comic embracesthe potential to become the primary choice among the children and adolescents as the content meets theintellectual and emotional needs of these groups. This article also explains the importance of conductingfurther research to monitor the extent of comic education being received by comic readers under thecollaboration of activists from the comic industries in the country.
