Abstract
In recent years proposals have proliferated to address cultural diversity but such initiatives haven't had the depth and effectiveness required by their complex nature. Institutional and personal commitments, and with the latter, also the beliefs, become a focus of great interest. The belief system has an impact on professional practice and may represent a serious setback for an education committed to cultural diversity. The study of beliefs in future teachers thus becomes the basic objective of this work. Through a descriptive study in a poll it deepens into beliefs of these professors in five key dimensions. Findings reveal, among other things, a restrictive view of cultural diversity, an uncritical perspective of evaluation and, most paramount of all, the need for teacher training in and for cultural diversity.
