Bird Use of Arboreal Water Sources in the Peruvian Amazon

Abstract

Camera traps and direct observation of water-filled bromeliads and tree holes revealed that birds frequently use canopy-held water in a perennially wet tropical forest. Bathing was the most common use, observed in a variety of taxa. Previous reports of bromeliad bathing exist only from seasonally dry forests.
