Abstract

This study aims to determine the process of making lime from tower snail shells (Turitella bacillum) with calcination method and to characterize calcium (Ca) using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The making of lime from the tower snail shells (Turitella bacillum) by calcination method using a furnace is carried out with a temperature treatment of 700C, 800C, 900C with a time of 3 hours, 5 hours, 7 hours. Lime produced from the calcination process is carried out using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results of lime analysis from the tower snail shell using UV-Vis spectrophotometer produced a standard curve y = 0.0465x + 0.1073 with r2 = 0.9851. Calcination temperature of 700 o C for 3 hours, 5 hours and 7 hours = 0.043 ppm, 4,026 ppm, 6,176 ppm; calcination temperature of 800 o C for 3 hours, 5 hours and 7 hours = 0.531 ppm, 4.402 ppm, 6.983 ppm; calcination temperature of 900 o C for 3 hours, 5 hours and 7 hours = 0.854 ppm, 4.66 ppm, 6.983 ppm.
