Abstract

Fretting damage is often the origin of catastrophic failure or loss of functionality in many industrial applications. Considered to be a plague for modern industry, this contact loading is encountered in all quasi-static loadings submitted to vibration and thus concerns many industries. The purpose of this presentation is to develop different mechanical tools allowing a finest understanding of the sliding condition and a better quantification of the fretting damages which are respectively the crack nucleation through the contact and the wear induced by debris formation.
