Abstract
The article explores the rise of generative AI, specifically ChatGPT, and its impact on various fields, including law and higher education. It provides recommendations for faculty to adapt to these tools and redesign assignments and syllabi to address academic misconduct. The article explains the basics of generative AI, highlighting its flaws and limitations, such as potential inaccuracies and biases. It argues for a rethinking of education to incorporate responsible AI use and the development of uniquely human skills. The article also discusses the challenges of generative AI in academic settings, including concerns about cheating, privacy, discrimination, and unreliability. It suggests adapting curriculum to focus on teaching and assessing human skills that AI cannot replicate and integrating generative AI into assignments in a meaningful way. The article emphasizes the importance of teaching critical thinking skills to address AI limitations and biases, establishing engagement with students, and clarifying policies on AI use. It concludes by stressing the need to recognize AI's limitations and prioritize the development of uniquely human skills in education.
