Qualitative Data as an Attractive Nuisance: The Problem of Analysis

Abstract

The article presents a criticism of qualitative research methodology within social science research. The qualitative method is compared to the legal metaphor of an "attractive nuisance," wherein the possibility seems effective but holds many logistical challenges which undermine its utility. The method's weaknesses are outlined and illustrated through the failed experimentation of the Project on Social Architecture in Education, highlighting the difficulties in objective analysis of collected data. Suggestions are also offered towards addressing and correcting the flaws of qualitative study.
