Abstract
This article is a conceptual explorations of the food activist movement called “locavorism”, contextualizing its emergence and some of its manifestations. When put into practice, locavorism can have diverse and even antagonistic effects. In order to analyze these contradictions, interviews were conducted with two farmers’ organizations in the city of São Paulo, inserted in local consumption circuits, so that the potential social and environmental effects of this type of procurement could be understood in practice.
