Abstract

This article tries to elucidate the ritual of nganyari akad nikah (marriage or renewal contract or tajdid nikah) in Jengglong Hamlet, Boyolali. A couple of marriage will do a renewal of marriage contract as the death of the member of hamlet inhabitants at the time of the marriage contract (aqd al-nikah) or wedding ceremony (walimat al-‘ursy) is conducted. Utilizing ‘urf perspective, this article argued that from the Islamic law point of view, the ritual of nganyari akan nikah in Dusun Jengglong can be categorised as valid tradition. In spite of in accordance with Islamic law, this tradition has a spirit of Islamic teachings in the form of giving assistance to condolent family.
