Abstract

We propose and experimentally demonstrate an optical image reconstruction in the Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) domain. Because LG mode features circular symmetry, it has unique advantages to decompose an image with rotational symmetry. In the experiment, we realize a high-fidelity reconstruction of an optical image by using about 10 4 LG modes. In the proposed configuration, the radial sampling points are much fewer than those in the existing methods, which can significantly improve the efficiency. Furthermore, we show azimuthal image noise reduction through LG domain filtering. Our results open a door for LG-mode based optical image processing.
