Abstract

The objective of this research was to analyze the specialization and competitiveness of avocado production in Mexico. The methods for analysis were the Location Quotient, the Shift and Share and an analysis of specialization and competitiveness was integrated. The results show a strong concentration and reconfiguration in relation to its specialization, Michoacán stands out as highly specialized. Michoacán and Colima show competitive advantages in this activity. The states with the highest growth prospects are Michoacán, Colima, Estado de México, Chiapas, Yucatán, and Durango. The specialization and competitiveness of this activity are related to natural conditions, market demand, and technological change.
