Abstract

Salmonella enterica subs. enterica serovar Paratyphi C has been implicated in the 'cocoliztli', the epidemics that decimated the population of the Aztec Empire in Mexico in the XVIth century. This has been done through massive sequencing of nucleic acids in samples from teeth pulp of human remains and by recurring to pathogenesis and ecological criteria in line with the One Health Concept.
