Abstract

About 1 200 specimens of Hydraenidae and Elmidae, belonging to 30 species, were collected in Northern Portugal, mainly in streams and small rivers flowing on granite, between 30 and 935 m a.s.l. Almost all Hydraenidae are Iberian endemics, including a new species of Haenydra, H. lusitana nov. sp. Some interesting Elmidae, such as Limnius perrisi mediocarinatus, Oulimnius bertrandi and O. major were also found. © 1977 Masson.
