Abstract
In our country, the most intense energy consumption occurs in buildings after industrial applications. Energy in buildings is consumed for primary needs such as operating daily electronic household appliances and meeting the need for heating. The energy saving potential used in buildings is around 15% of the total consumption. Cogeneration systems stand out as an attractive alternative with high energy efficiency for buildings, as they can generate electricity and heat energy simultaneously. In this paper, a detailed literature review on cogeneration systems for buildings was made, cogeneration types for buildings were introduced, and cogeneration applications of different fuel cell types in buildings were examined. It has been determined that fuel cell systems are frequently preferred because they do not have noise and vibration problems, take up little space and can be easily applied in buildings. In the study, it was determined that high energy efficiency was achieved with the use of fuel cell cogeneration technologies in buildings, and CO2, NOx, CO and pollution source component emissions were significantly reduced by cogeneration systems.
