Abstract
The paper describes the use of a formal optimization procedure to determine the design of a rotor slot to obtain maximum efficiency. The method involves the use of an equivalent-circuit model coupled to a finite-element field-model to calculate machine performance. Typical results are given for a 37-kW 4-pole motor designed for three particular applications, and for a 150-kW 2-pole general-purpose motor. © 1996 IEEE.
