Abstract

Optimization in metal cutting includes determination of lowest machining cost and highest possible production rate; equations were developed permitting calculation of optimum cutting speed, tool life, feed, etc, for numerous parameters such as machining time, loading and unloading time, setup time, lot size, depreciation, grinding cost; these equations can also be reduced to individual items by means of computer, thus enabling management to check them continuously and take necessary steps for improvement.
