Abstract

Seismic reflection profiles across the Hatton Bank continental margin in the eastern North Atlantic have imaged thick sequences of seaward‐dipping reflectors. Converted shear waves propagating through one of these sequences were recorded on a two‐ship expanding spread profile just landward of the ocean‐continent transition. Synthetic seismogram modelling of these shear waves indicates that Poisson's ratio in the sequence is 0.27 ± 0.01, similar to that of normal oceanic Layer 2. Copyright © 1993, Wiley Blackwell.
