Abstract

This study was conducted to determine hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas concentration in ambient air which potential for air pollution, workers health and workers comfort at occupational area of PT PERTAMINA (Persero) RU IV Cilacap. Data of H2S concentration in ambient air (sampled by wet method), meteorology and questionnaire responses in predetermined locations, were taken in this study. All of H2S concentration measurements when sampling were below Threshold Limit Value (TLV) of PER.13/MEN/X/2011 1 ppm. The highest H2S concentration was 0.36 ppm which found in FOC I (afternoon) while the lowest H2S concentration was undetected and found in LOC III (morning). Kruskal-Wallis test indicates that Xcalculated 0.072<5.99 Xcritical which means that H2S concentrations in morning, afternoon, and evening were not significantly different. There were some sites where H2S concentrations exceed TLV (0.02 ppm) of the KEP. MENLH No.50/MENLH/11/1996. Those were FOC I (evening), LOC III (afternoon), SRU (morning), LOC II (morning), LOC I (all sampling times), and FOC II (evening). 73.85% respondents answered that they felt disturbed even very disturbed by H2S gas in occupational area. Another 26.15% admitted to feel normal even uninterrupted by H2S gas in occupational area. Linear correlation test showed that R2 value was 0.318. It means that 31.8% odor variable has contributed to the interference effect of comfort, while another 68.2% influenced by other factors. Respondents have health problems such as eye irritation/red/watery, shortness of breath, dizziness with percentages of 7.82%, 7.26%, and 17.32% respectively. Keywords:
