Abstract

This study presented experimental information about heterogeneous photodegradation of 4- chlorophenol using TiO2-P25 in cylindrical parabolic composed solar reactor (CPC). The effect of pH and catalyst concentration on the degradation percentage of substrate were determined. The reactors have different areas and different total operating volumes: CPC-I: 1.16 mz2 de area y 20 L; CPC-II: 2.33 m2 y 50 L; CPC-III: 3.50 m2 y 60 L. The measurements were done using chloride ion, UV-spectrophotometry and color. It was found that the most influential variables on the process were the pH and the reactor area. Also, the formation of intermediary substances that provided color to the reaction system and the disappearance of them when sun exposure area was increased, were observed.
