Abstract

It has been reported that the cytochemical reaction for peroxidase in granulocytes and the peroxidase reaction of hemoglobin in erythrocytes were inhibited by methanol, but not by ethanol. Similar observations were made for horseradish peroxidase (HRP) and for hemoglobin. The inhibition of endogenous peroxidase or the inhibition of injected HRP by methanol facilitated the immunocytochemical detection of the antibody to HRP. In the experiments described the influence of methanol and ethanol on the peroxidate activities of 3 hemoproteins was analyzed in great detail.
