Abstract

Here we report the negative influence of porous nickel foam for use as current collectors in rechargeable Li-air batteries. Uncoated nickel foam promotes the decomposition of LiPF 6 -organic carbonate electrolytes under normal charging conditions reported for rechargeable Li-air cells. Partially coating the Ni reduces the extent of electrolyte decomposition. We have identified Ni-free porous carbon supports as more appropriate cathode current collectors.
