Abstract

A flowcell designed for the measurement of electrochemical parameters of materials undergoing impingement corrosion in flowing, once-through sea water is described. Electrode potentials were measured and potentiodynamic methods used which enabled cathodic and anodic polarisation characteristics to be determined. Two condenser tube materials, aluminium brass and cupronickel66/ 30/2/2 were used in this work. Data have been obtained which have enabled a mechanism to beformulated to explain the protective action of iron-richfilmsformed on these materials byferrous sulphate treatment of the sea water. © 1978 Maney Publishing.
