Abstract

Excerpt: In Reconsidering Untouchability: Chamars and Dalit History in North India, the historian Ramnarayan Rawat rewrites the history of Chamars, an untouchable community in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The book has two major parts. In the first part, Rawat sets out to question the political economy imposed on Dalits.
