Abstract

Bacosine (1) isolated from the aerial parts of Bacopa monnieri, exhibited moderate analgesic effects but was found to be devoid of effects on barbiturate narcosis, haloperidol-induced catalepsy, spontaneous motor activity (SMA) and conditioned avoidance response (CAR). The analgesic effects, reported for the first time in this plant, were found to be opioidergic in nature.
